questions?

I'm here for you.

Whether you've already discovered the healing power of psychotherapy or bodywork or are just getting started, my goal is to be as transparent as possible and provide answers to the most common questions about how I can help you.

  • Do you take health insurance?
I take some insurances, Aetna and Cigna (ME and MA). For out of network services and bodywork I take cash, Venmo, credit cards and HSA cards for payment (psychotherapy). Payment is expected at the time of service.
  • Do you take MaineCare?
No, I do not. If you have MaineCare, please seek a psychotherapy provider who does bill MaineCare as I cannot accept you as a self pay client.
  • Where are you located?
I am located at 59 Webster Street, Lewiston, ME
  • Do you offer telehealth or distance sessions?
Yes, I offer both. I can do psychotherapy via telehealth (for Maine, Massachusetts or New Hampshire residents), and I can do distance Polarity sessions regardless of where you live. You just need a good internet connection for both.
  • If I am your psychotherapy client, can we meet virtually when I am traveling or out of state?
It depends. I am licensed currently in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, so if you are a resident of one of those states, or traveling to one of those states, we can meet virtually. If you are a resident of any other state, or traveling to any other state aside from those three, we cannot meet until you are physically located back in ME, NH or MA. Essentially, the rules state that you the client must be physically located in a state I am licensed in at the time of our session.
  • Do you offer groups?
Yes, I do offer skills based groups, both online and in person. These are not therapy groups, and I do not bill insurance for these. Please sign up for my email list and follow me on social media for updates as to group start dates, information and pricing.
  • What kind of therapist/counselor are you?
I am both a psychotherapist, with a MSW (Master of Social Work degree) and 20 years of experience and an energetic bodyworker with 660 clock hours of training in Polarity Therapy. I am also an Access Bars Practitioner. I am a therapist that enjoys bringing out of the box thinking and a holistic view to my psychotherapy work, and also blend my psychotherapy skills with bodywork practice to deepen the work, if the client so desires. Both modalities (talk therapy and bodywork) stand solidly on their own respectively as powerful healing practices, AND I like that they complement each other beautifully and that I can offer my clients both. I have a background in fitness as a Crossfit athlete and coach, and movement and embodiment are integral to my healing work with clients. I am direct, I love humor and will use it appropriately and strategically, I will ask you questions, and ask you to ask questions of yourself and your process as a way of expanding what is possible for you in session and in your healing journey.
  • What kinds of mental health issues do you specialize in?
I do not have a specialty in mental health per se; I have worked extensively with people who have experienced anxiety- acute and chronic, cancer, chronic illness, depression, physical and sexual abuse, medical trauma, communication issues in intimate relationships (partner related and familial) and workplace interpersonal conflict.
  • What is your training background and credentials?
I have a MSW (master of social work) degree from Smith College School for Social Work, and am a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). I have also completed a 660-clock hour program in Polarity Therapy at Spa Tech Institute in Westbrook, Maine. I have been a social worker and therapist for 20 years, and graduated from Spa Tech July 2022. I will be pursuing my BCPP (Board Certified Polarity Practitioner) designation in 2022-2023. This is the highest level of credential for a Polarity Practitioner. I am also trained as a group facilitator through the Center for Mind Body Medicine in their Mindfulness Based Skills Group model.
  • Why do you use crystals, tuning forks, and singing bowls in your sessions?
Energy can be affected, moved and cleared in a number of ways, and using sound/vibration is one of them. I use tuning forks and singing bowls to do this. The crystals I use are mostly clear quartz, and are able to hold and transmit a high vibration. I use crystals to clear energy, and may also lay them on the body during a Polarity session to nourish and support the chakra system and related areas of the body.
  • Does Polarity Therapy, Access Bars and other energetic bodywork lend themselves well to certain populations or addressing certain issues?
Polarity Therapy and Access Bars are for everyone, AND some populations might find them particularly helpful. People who would like a more holistic, well-rounded approach to mental health, physical and spiritual well-being enjoy these energetic bodywork modalities. Also, people who would like a way to address and process traumatic events, emotional issues without having to verbally process or re-tell their story as much, might find this work healing. Those who would like to try bodywork but don’t want to disrobe, people who have chronic pain and have tried many other interventions without much success, people who struggle with anxiety and an overactive nervous system, people who feel “stuck” in their psychotherapy can benefit from bodywork of this kind as well. Polarity Therapy can be great for oncology patients too, who often are not allowed to do massage during active cancer treatment but could benefit from conscious touch work. Clients who would like a nervous system “reset”, and would like to experience themselves as balanced and learn ways to balance their own energy, enjoy Polarity Therapy. Access Bars is wonderful for people wanting to shift their thinking, open to possibility, step out of judgement, and de-program unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. There really is something for everyone with energetic bodywork.
  • If I get bodywork from you, can I also be a psychotherapy client?
That is a possibility. What would that look like for us to work together in that way? Please reach out to me directly to discuss.
  • What is a GFE (Good Faith Estimate)?
*This applies to psychotherapy clients only* You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. ● You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. ● Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. ● If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. ● Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
  • What is your no show/late cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel any type of appointment with me. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or no show an appointment with me (in person or virtual) you will be charged a $65.00 fee.
  • Do you require a credit card on file for psychotherapy services?
Yes, I do. This will be arranged upon intake. This is so I or my biller can automatically charge your card for co-pays and late cancel/no show fees.
  • What is Polarity Therapy?
Briefly, Polarity Therapy is a system of healing that involves bodywork, energy clearing, verbal processing and counseling, polarity yoga, and nutritional education. In doing so it acknowledges and includes all dimensions of a person- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Polarity Therapy works with the fundamental energies of life, the five elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth), and brings these energies into a state of balance in a session. This system of addressing health was created by Dr. Randolph Stone, DO, and draws from a number of health traditions, both modern and ancient.
  • Is Polarity Therapy like massage?
Not really. Their similarities end at the fact that both involve touching the body. Massage typically requires disrobing; Polarity Therapy does not.
  • How can I expect to feel after a polarity therapy session?
This really depends on the person, but many of my clients have reported feeling relaxed, energized, more balanced, and clearer in their thinking. How someone feels after a session can also depend on the work done by me and you/your body, and the depth of the work that day. I always recommend to drink extra water after your session, and if you need to exercise after, focus on stretching, walking, yoga, mobility work, to allow your body time to integrate the work.
  • What is Access Bars?
Access Bars is a light touch energy work that works to de-program negative, self-limiting thought patterns that can be keeping you from making changes. “Bars”, or “running the Bars” as we practitioners and fans of the work like to say, can be an effective way of letting go of judgements, patterns, considerations limitations, feelings, emotions, points of view and fixed ideas around all kinds of common issues such as money, love, communication, aging, work, time, body image and many more. The work is performed with the client fully clothed, laying down on a treatment table (but can be done on the floor, in a zero gravity chair- one can get creative!) with the Bars practitioner sitting at their head. The practitioner accesses 32 different points on the head, and some on the feet and hands.
  • What is energetic bodywork?
In a nutshell, it is bodywork done with conscious touch, focusing on not only the structure of the body, but the electromagnetic field of the body, chakra system and aura.
  • How can bodywork help with my emotional concerns?
There is a saying that “the issues are in the tissues”; emotions and trauma can live in your body long after they first appear, if they are not cleared immediately, which rarely happens. Talking about them, in my experience, can clear emotions to a certain level, but unless this is done in an embodied way, involving the body in the process, energy can remain stuck. Energetic and structural bodywork can help clear and unblock emotional energy sometimes quite quickly. Bodywork can be a wonderful complement to psychotherapy and counseling, having a synergistic effect, allowing emotions to release, and new insights around whatever issues you are working on in therapy to arise.
  • How do I dress for a bodywork session?
Please wear clothes you are comfortable in and can move easily in. Loose fitting clothing or leggings/joggers/sweatpants and t-shirt or tank top are fine.
